MountThis bronze mount was found at Dowalton Loch Crannog in Wigtownshire. It dates from between 100 BC and 200 AD, and may have functioned as an amulet. The mount is ornamented with a triskele pattern, a shape which seems to have had some religious significance, especially in Scotland during this period. Magic and superstition were an integral part of everyday life. Some shapes had special significance for a long period of time, for example the triskele pattern which reflects symbolism of the number three.
