RecordPruning hook< 1 of 1 > Back From Newstead, Roxburghshire
Pruning hookThis iron pruning hook was found during excavations at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It was probably used to collect fodder for animals sometime between 80 and 180 AD. The hook has a socket where the wooden handle would have been inserted. Various agricultural implements, including scythes, sickles, rakes and hoes were found at the Roman fort of Newstead, suggesting that some cultivation occurred near the site.
