Soup plateThis earthenware soup plate was made around 1870 by Glasgow potters J. and M.P. Bell & Co. The white glazed soup plate has light blue printed designs, including a central motif with a chariot and a classical temple. Bells started exporting early on in their history, certainly by the 1860s. Their trade with the East was particularly important and grew in the 1870s. After John Bell's death in 1880, the new limited company continued with this trade.
