Strap mountThis bronze strap mount was found during excavations at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It was used to decorate horse harness, sometime between 80 and 180 AD. This example was made in a local style. Native style copper alloy button-and-loop fastener, from Newstead There were two classes of Roman soldiers: the elite legionary and the ordinary auxiliary soldier, each with its own particular type of equipment.
