RecordLance head< 1 of 1 > Back From Burnswark, Dumfriesshire
Lance headThis iron lance head was found at the site of the Roman fort of Burnswark in Dumfriesshire. It was part of the equipment of the auxiliary cavalry, used between 80 and 180 AD. The lance head is long and slender. Although slender, the length of this spearhead suggests it was used as a cavalry lance, rather than a throwing spear. The fort at Burnswark appears to have been used as a training centre for Roman auxiliaries, especially for bows, slings and ballista.
