Coin (reverse), plack, from reign of James VThis is the reverse of a billon plack minted at Edinburgh between 1513 and 1526, during the reign of James V. The coin was worth four pence Scots. The reverse has a floreate cross fourchee with a five-pointed mullet in the centre. There are crowns in the 1st and 3rd angles and saltires in the 2nd and 4th. The Latin inscription translates as: 'Town of Edinburgh'. James V's reign saw the introduction of two new gold coins - the crown and the ducat. The latter was the first Scottish gold coin to bear a portrait. A new billon coin called the bawbee also appeared for the first time.
