Coin (reverse), rider, from the reign of James VIThis is the reverse of a gold rider minted at Edinburgh in 1594, during the reign of James VI. The coin was worth 100 shillings Scots. The reverse has a crowned shield. The Latin inscription translates as: 'I hope for better things'. The coins of James VI's reign are considered to have the most beautiful designs and most varied legends of all Scottish coins.
