Covered silver porringerA porringer is a small dish used for soup or porridge. This silver example was made in 1682-3 by Alexander Reid, a member of a family of Edinburgh goldsmiths. Pieces with this type of extravagant ornamentation are extremely rare in Scotland. The straight-sided dish, with two S-shaped handles, is decorated with both engraving and repoussé work. The lid is topped with a cast strawberry with four leaves. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
