Fashion plate, from La Mode IllustreéThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dating from 1880, the plate illustrates six hats. It is signed, 'Anaïs Toudouze'. The hats are trimmed with feathers and flowers. The one in the centre also has a small bird as decoration. Adèle Anaïs Toudouze was one of the most prolific and popular fashion plate artists of the mid-nineteenth century. Examples of her work could be seen in many of the in the top fashion magazines of the time, including Le Follet and Le Magasin des Desmoiselles.
