Fashion plate, from La Mode IllustreéThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dating from 1893, the plate illustrates five hats. It is signed, 'Charles Rabouille' and 'Anaïs Toudouze'. The hats are trimmed with flower, lace, ribbon and feathers. Underneath, the hair is elaborately waved with the forehead covered in masses of curls. The hair is arranged at the back in a bun. Adèle Anaïs Toudouze was the second daughter of Alexandre-Marie Colin (1798-1875), a painter and lithographer. Along with her sisters, Héloïse and Laure, she was responsible for some of the most charming fashion plates of the mid-nineteenth century.
