Fashion plate, from La Mode IllustreéThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dating from 1892, the plate illustrates five hats and bonnets. It is signed, 'Charles Rabouille' and 'Anaïs Toudouze'. The hats and bonnets are trimmed with feathers, lace, ribbons and flowers. Underneath, the hair is arranged into a bun at the back. The forehead is covered with a mass of curls. Adèle Anaïs Toudouze was the second daughter of Alexandre-Marie Colin (1798-1875), a painter and lithographer. Along with her sisters, Héloïse and Laure, she was responsible for some of the most charming fashion plates of the mid-nineteenth century.
