Fashion plate, from La Mode IllustreéThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dating from 1886, the plate illustrates a wedding dress with a train and a day dress with hat. The plate is signed, 'Anaïs Toudouze' and 'Huard'. The waistline of these dresses is tight fitting and extends to a long point. The bustle is quite exaggerated, tending to arch up and out from the back. The skirts are draped and trimmed at the back into elaborate bouffants. Adèle Anaïs Toudouze (1822-99), was one of the most prolific and popular fashion plate artists of the mid-nineteenth century. Her work could also be seen in the top twenty fashion magazines including Le Follet and Le Magasin des Desmoiselles. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
