Soup plateThis transfer-printed earthenware soup plate was made by R.A. Kidston & Company of the Verreville Pottery in Glasgow. It dates from around 1840 and was exported to South East Asia. The pattern is called 'SYRIAN'. The outer edge has a striped pattern while the centre shows a branch of foliage. This plate is one in an extensive collection of Scottish plates found in the bazaars and markets of Java, Sumatra and Borneo, areas for which they were undoubtedly produced.
