Fashion plate, from La Mode IllustreéThis hand-coloured fashion plate is from La Mode Illustreé, a fashion magazine published in Paris. Dating from 1896, the plate illustrates a day dress and an evening dress. It is signed, 'I. Desgrange'. The lady on the right is carrying a feathered fan. The 1890s saw trends for ostrich-feather fans, black lace fans and hand-painted gauze fans. Isabelle Desgrange (née Toudouze) was the daughter of Adèle Anaïs Toudouze, one of the most prolific and popular fashion plate artists of the mid-nineteenth century. Isabelle also produced plates for Le Follet, Le Monde Elégant and The Queen. Record detailsTo search on related items, click any linked text below.
