MeasureThis pewter measure for half a 'mutchkin' (a quarter Scots pint) dates from the 18th century. The measure has scroll handle and a thumb-piece. The shape of the measure is known as a 'Tappit Hen'. Pewter was commonly used for measures and drinking vessels as it was both fairly cheap and strong enough to stand up to to the rigours of tavern life.
