Decorations, of Admiral Sir William Carnegie

These decorations were awarded to Admiral Sir William Carnegie, Earl of Northesk, in between 1805 and 1816 for his achievements during the Napoleonic Wars.

The first decoration, the Star of a Knight Grand Cross of the the Order of the Bath, dates from 1815. It is made of silver, gold and enamel. The gold medal, awarded for Carnegie's part in the Battle of Trafalgar, has an image of Britannia on it and is fitted with a sewn together length of silk ribbon. The third decoration, the star of a Knight Companion of the Order of the Bath, was bought by Carnegie between 1812 and 1815. It is made of silver, gold and enamel.

Admiral Carnegie (1758-1831) was a Scottish nobleman who was 3rd in command at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Admiral Nelson's famous victory over the French and Spanish fleets at Trafalgar won Britain almost total control over the seas.
